Leaving Plastic Behind
1,215 miles: if you stacked the number of plastic pods Americans throw out every day end-to-end, they could cover nearly the distance from New York to Miami. It would only take about 20 days for that stack of pods to stretch the full circumference of the earth.
Nearly 75% of all aluminum ever produced in the world is still in use today. Since the aluminum molecule is so stable, it doesn't break down in the recycling process, so it can be easily recycled over and over again.
Recycled aluminum saves roughly 95% of the energy it takes to produce new aluminum. This explains why recycled aluminum makes up 80% of America's aluminum production.
The Rising Tide
With Americans sending more than 40 million plastic coffee pods to landfills every day, you might think we'll run out of land to "fill" soon. Perhaps that's part of why more than 14 million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans every year. In fact, it's estimated that plastic in our oceans will outweigh fish by 2050!
The Blue Bin Myth
It's easy to feel like we're doing our part by throwing everything possible into recycling bins, but only a small percentage of most of those items are actually turned into other things. Plastic is perhaps the biggest culprit, with an estimated 5-6% of the plastic waste generated in the US getting recycled. In contrast, as an infinitely recyclable material, 75% of aluminum ever produced is still in circulation today.

How are Cambio pods different from other pods?
Our patented aluminum coffee pods are the first of its kind. Aluminum is infinitely recyclable, allowing our pods to go on to become another product. This premier product blocks light and oxygen, allowing our coffee to stay fresher longer. In addition to the paper filter, every pod has an FDA-approved food grade liner, so the coffee never touches the aluminum.
Does a Cambio pod brew differently than a plastic pod?
The process is the exact same. For best recycling results, we recommend: Peel, allow the pod to cool, then peel the lid back by using the tab. Pull, pull out the filter and coffee grinds, place filter with grinds into compost or trash. Press, firmly press two or more empty pods with lids inside each other. Recycle, place the pods into a recycling bin.
Are they reusable if I want to pack my own grinds later?
Cambio's pods are not reusable; they are simply recyclable.
Does the aluminum pod give the coffee a metal taste?
Definitely not. Soda, beer and other beverages have been packaged in aluminum for decades, because it preserves the taste so well.
